Brown Bag Luncheon Concert

A Cappella Texas entertains audiences with world-class a cappella harmony featuring new and challenging contemporary a cappella, doo-wop, gospel music, as well as traditional barbershop arrangements. Since 1961, Austin has been home to a chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS). In the past six decades the Austin Chapter and their quartets have brought people together in harmony and fellowship to enrich lives through singing. Hundreds of local singers and schools have joined in the fun as they have encouraged and preserved the uniquely American a cappella art form known as barbershop music.

While singing is their passion, part of their mission is to foster the musical growth of young singers in middle and high school choirs to discover and perform a cappella music. Every year, through donations, they award scholarships to promising High School seniors who plan to pursue a major or minor in vocal music performance or vocal music education. They hope to encourage others to see how music and singing is an experience that brings joy to every generation.

Under the leadership of their enthusiastic director, Katy Dane, A Cappella Texas has committed to achieving top performance levels through continuous improvement on vocal skills & performance growth. Since 2017, and for three years running, A Cappella Texas is the Southwestern District Division AA Chorus Champion, winning Most Improved Chorus in 2017 & 2019, and the winner of the Audience Choice Award for 2019!

The ABCD Quartet, which will perform with A Cappella Texas, formed in 2021 and has morphed into an LQ (large quartet) of 6 or 7 singers. They are a registered quartet with the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS), a national organization of Barbershop singers with international affiliates. They are a Senior Quartet and are all retired or mostly retired, which gives them the flexibility of being available for most weekday time slots. Recently, they have provided dozens of performances throughout the Austin community, at retirement residences, private parties, public events, and A Cappella Texas chorus performances. They love to sing and take great pride in bringing the joy of harmony to the greater Austin community.
