Come enjoy the picturesque scenery and inviting clear waters of Lake Travis at Windy Point Park.

Use our stairs to easily access the water when the lake is low or enjoy a picnic on our beautiful waterfront grounds.

Bring your whole family to swim, feed ducks, and return later for incredible sunsets–Windy Point Park’s day pass lasts generously past sunset. It’s like having your own backyard on the lake.

Convenient to Austin, Windy Point Park is a fun destination campground, and you don’t need reservations. Tent camping is primitive–you can set up anywhere you want in the grass, trees, or waterfront–yet the groomed lawn and abundant shade trees help make it feel civilized.

You can use our firepits, grills, and picnic tables or bring your own. Clean restrooms, warm-water showers, local ice, and a 24-hr snack-shack are available for your camping comfort. We also have free internet. Whether picnicking till sunset or camping overnight, Windy Point Park is a great place to relax and feel at home.

Windy Point Park is also one of the top diving “hot spots” in Central Texas. Scuba instructors, recreation divers, and underwater freedivers enjoy the multiple entries and relaxed atmosphere. Even advanced and technical divers can complete their certifications at Windy Point Park. Fire and Underwater Rescue Operators from all over the state also use Windy Point Park as a training ground to help save lives.

The scuba park offers underwater sculpture and sunken boats and cars to help divers hone their skills. We also have navigation courses and six platforms at varying depths that instructors can use for training.

Divers with advanced training and experience can enjoy the deep underwater orchard and canyon wall; especially skilled divers can plunge to depths up to 200 feet.

Any diver going deep may prefer to use a dry suit to avoid the cold. Divers enjoy:
• On-site air-fills and courtesy carts to transport equipment
• Instructors – Free park entry and personal air-fills with SCUBA class
• DiveMasters – Free park entry when working with a SCUBA class

We are family-owned and operated — come out and see us!

  3. Loved this laid back place. Where else can you take a hot shower under the stars. We swam in the lake because it was 70 degrees and if you’re from England, that’s warm! Thanks for the friendly welcome.

  5. I had the pleasure of staying here for three nights while cross country traveling. The management ( which is new ) and the family behind this wanderlust, scenic, nostalgic, beautiful property was absolutely incredible! Steven, was a delight to chat with about the property, its future and its nostalgic past! This is a must stop for anyone who values peace and quiet with a very strong community and family bond! I would highly recommend staying, camping overnight or day tripping out here for an experience, a sunset, a sunrise and a campfire! I am looking forward to seeing what the future holds when I return this November’24.. Great to have met you all !

  6. This is a privately owned camping ground and park on the lake shore. Nice view with plenty of games to play and sites to camp. They even had a campfire for the whole park, where everyone was invited to enjoy s’mores. Overall friendly staff and beautiful property to relax.

  21. Our new favorite place in the world. This is a rare place, so beautiful and so simple. The owner told us to think of it as our own backyard on the lake. No reservations, no assigned spaces, no cement, no gimmicky up-sales, no interference at all. Just a nice family-owned park run by an incredibly nice family on incredibly beautiful land. We’re in love with this place!

  22. Windy Point Park is my new favorite place to go. I’ve liked coming here for years, but it’s better now than it’s ever been. The new manager made the place nice without overdoing it. It’s one of the last places you can find near Austin that isn’t over-managed or over-developed – and it’s clean, really clean. I mean how is this not on some heritage map somewhere? Just come in an find your inner peace.

  23. We went to Windy Point Park on Lake Travis after my friends said we had to go. Just do it you won’t be sorry.
Everyone here is friendly like you get in a small town. Fahime brought us a lighter for our campfire, and my sons and I sat under the stars all night. The first day they took us to a beach and the next day we went down the stairs to get to the water. The water is way far down now but it’s still nice to swim in. It’s clean and it’s deep. If you like a no-frills experience with luxury treatment, and the best-managed park on the lake, go to Windy Point Park. It’s not fancy, it’s just real.

  26. Awesome park with a great owner and fantastic staff. We have visited before and love the location and the swimming area. You cannot find better on Lake Travis. We rented a kayak from them this time and they went above and beyond to make our time enjoyable. We will be telling all our friends and family about this place and cannot recommend them highly enough.

  30. Love the customer service, there so sweet and kind, they gave us a ride to where we can have our little puppy can swim at, and when it was pouring rain they were checking up on us making sure we were ok. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND‼️

  31. This was the first stop on our long haul road trip from Palo Duro canyon state park, we left the park in a hurry to escape some extreme flooding, we had reservations at McKinney state park, but needed to rest in our RV, because we were exhausted.

I made a late-night call to Jan and she and her husband did not hesitate to let us stay as long as we needed and let us Hookup our RV. She was the only one I called that would let us come without reservation. They gave us hookups to their home for us to rest.

We had some electrical issues and their friend/employee who lived on the grounds named John came to the rescue. He is an electrician and gave us a big hand. We took a walk down the swimming area to get away from the RV mess we had and just relaxed. Its a popular swim area and got busy during the time we were leaving.

I can not express how well we were taken care of during this ordeal of a trip. Jan, her husband, and John were the most genuine and hospitable group of people we have met so far. This place had been in Jan’s family for 50 years and I hope it stays that way. It’s their home and they shared their home with us as if we were family.

  32. Beautiful property and a great place to snorkel, scuba, swim, BBQ, have a party, and camp. The owner (Jan, given name) is delightful, and dedicated to service. Not a great place to go if you have a dog yet, but I feel certain it will be. You can still camp there, but not near the water with the dog. Giant loop for walking and exploring, changing rooms, portapotties, and ice available for purchase.

Nearby activities: Dogs are allowed next door at the park. Admission is $5 and there’s a boat ramp, flushing bathrooms and showers.

Walkability: Great place to exercise with some stunning views. Challenging terrain and lots of trees.

  34. The team at Windy Point is so kind and service oriented. They are laid back and also serious about safety in the heat, providing shade and access to drinking water and a cute little inflatable splash pool to make sure everyone stays safe and cool. Diving here is tough with the low lake level but they make it easier with their carts and the cool dive sites like sunken boats and cars. The stairs are a little rough but I have seen them actively maintain them. I’ve taken all my dive certification classes here through Dive World Austin and it’s been a lot of fun.

    Christy M. , 2 years ago
  35. My family and I enjoyed our time at Windy Point Park! Definitely take a tent if possible! Especially if you go down to the shallow part of the park. They provide shuttles to take you to those shallow areas. Definitely a perk to their services! Jon was our shuttle guy and boy was he awesome! He made our visit even more memorable!

    Jessica , 2 years ago
  36. We were new to the area and were looking to swim at a nice place. At first We almost left since we saw the water was really deep, but fortunately the crew members showed us another part of the oasis. John, specifically, was someone who kindly transported us there and took us to a very low level, kid friendly part of the lake. From there, we had an awesome time, enjoyed the water and the sun.

Immaculate customer service, would very much love to come again.

  37. My family and I had an amazing time at Windy Pointe Park! Thank your Mr. John and and Mr. Fajim they went far and beyond to provide the best service for my family and I! Highly recommend this place!

  38. A+ to Windy Point Park. It’s everything a campground should be. I stayed 2 nights for a solo trip in July and will return often throughout the year.

STAFF – I’ll mention this first because it belongs at the top. The park is gorgeous enough to warrant a visit, but the owners and staff just take it to the next level. Owners Jan and her husband Fahim(?) put so much love and care into all aspects of this place and are on site 24/7. Their newest addition, John, will bend over backwards to make sure you have everything you need. In addition to being a fun as hell guy to be around, John is behind several of the new projects they’re rolling out this season. I look forward to seeing those ideas take shape.

AMENITIES – They’ve got everything right there for day visits and overnight stays: tons of ice, vending machines, tiny camp store, FREE pool noodles, FREE firewood (the good kind, Juniper) and pull carts to haul gear. There’s an air pump station for swim floats, a charging station for phones, and surprisingly good wifi.

ACCESSIBILITY – Great parking setup, easy to pack/unpack gear, and just a quick drive to nearby convenience stores. Staff is always happy to transport you to any edge of the coastline you’d like. The water is pristine with plenty of access points to swim or float.

CLEAN & BEAUTIFUL – They make a point to keep the grass super green here. They take pride in their porta-potties(!!); trash cans are smartly placed and regularly cleaned. The open air showers have heated water and remained remarkably clean during my stay.

FUTURE PLANS – Windy Point has made a push over the past few months to make the guest experience even better, but they are rolling out several major projects throughout the summer and fall that will TRULY put them a step ahead of other parks.

To all types of campers, I recommend this park one zillion percent.

  39. This was amazing place and great experience. Swimming in deepest part of lake Travis on a summer day is must. Great Host!

  40. Great husband and wife hosts. It definitely feels like home. Getting stamped there will give you access to one of the boat ramps at Bob Wentz, but you’ll have to drop your stuff and park back at windy point. The water was way down when we camped there, but it exposed some docks that are normally underwater for the divers, which made for a great picnic spot. Stay for the day or camp, keep in mind it’s primitive camping. They have great showers tho with warm filtered water and port a pottys. The primitive part is nice because it attracts a different type of crowd who are more in touch with nature. It’s very quiet at night, aside from the sound of nature. Oh, and there’s free Wi-Fi.

  41. I’m well traveled. The Most Well Receiving Campground I have Ever Experienced .
High Quality, and Sincere Guest reception.
Nobody Should ever miss this Quiet Sanctuary, and Safe, and Peaceful setting.
    I Can’t say enough.

  42. Amazing, amazing experience!! We had a girls camping trip this weekend and it was so fun!! The staff was very attentive & helpful here!! They were making sure we all were okay, checking on us if we needed anything, they even let us borrow their lighter fluid, and they brought fire wood to us to have a bonfire! They all were so down to earth and truly made our experience here 1000% better!! The view here is amazing, and the showers are great to take a quick fast showers. They have on sight charging ports to charge your phones, and they have air mattress pumps so you don’t have to worry about bringing a pump as they have multiple available there ready to use.

On behalf of all my sisters & cousins, thank you Windy Point Park!! We will definitely be coming here again!!

  43. This is a great location with wonderful views, and plenty of space to spread out a campsite for a youth group or your family. I have been here twice and have thoroughly enjoyed the campsite. The staff has always been very helpful and friendly.

    Willis G. , 3 years ago
  44. A great place for a camping or a day out. There are many activities that you can do. Some people spend the day camping. Others do barbecue as possible for barbecue. Some swim, ride boats, or catch fish. The place is very nice and the services are available. The staff is very friendly. There are parking spots, I highly recommend this place for people who want to relax

    Ammar , 3 years ago
  45. Great spot to camp in. Picnic tables, fire rings, porta-potties, showers, changing areas, carts to haul your stuff from the parking lot to your campsite, air, and a few games like cornhole. First come, first serve, camp anywhere you like. A fair number of mature oak trees for shade. Not the cheapest, but it’s location location location.

    Brian M. , 3 years ago
  46. I camped out here for a while- I am so happy I found Windy Point Park! Loved the people that worked there- super friendly and professional. Felt so safe and the grounds were peaceful and beautiful. Can’t wait to go back the next time I am in Austin. Highly recommend!

  47. If you’re looking for a good spot to swim, picnic and catch the local Tejano scene on Lake Travis, Windy Point Park is your place. Low wind on Easter Sunday made this a great spot to swim and SUP. We saw divers coming out of the water too. Private park with $15 entry fee for adults and kids over age of 9. They have fun little carts to help haul your camp chairs, coolers and toys into the park.

    Lauren B. , 3 years ago
  48. Absolutely love this place & love the family that runs it. They do such a great job with the park and you can sense the love they put into it. To the Dad that owns the park, your family is doing an amazing job & if you want to unofficially adopt me into the family just let me know!! Thank y’all for this park!

    Luna T. , 3 years ago
  49. We came to windy point thinking it would be a great place to swim and paddleboard. The paddleboards were available, and we did end up renting 2. We didn’t end up doing any of the above because it was too cold and windy, it’s was modern March, so the timing was bad. Here’s what I have 4 stars about. The view of the lake are beautiful. It’s a pretty secluded location from the crowds, the cliffs are great for sunning, there are plenty of tables for picnicking and there is stair access to the water if you so desire. We did go down to the water and stuck our feet in to feel.the cold water. Very interesting experience.

    Tamara H. , 3 years ago
  50. My family & I are divers! This is a great place to take your family! The staff is friendly with fill stations on site.
Skill ranges from beginner to deep diver.
Remember, don’t dive outside your skill level! Talk to the staff before you dive!

Safety: Everything is marked, but you need to talk to the staff about updates!

    John H. , 3 years ago
  51. Good place to dive. They have carts to haul your gear from parking to the water. Picnic tables for setting up. They also fill bottles and have changing areas

    William M. , 4 years ago
  52. Water temperature was great! 10/10. Make sure to take a flotie, or whatever you wanna call it but if you don’t know how to swim youre definitely going to need a life jacket. Overall great experience

    Diana G. , 4 years ago
  53. Clean and spacious grassy area. Lots of trees for shade. Kids can swim, dive off the rocks, there are tables and firepits, the entrance has some basic snacks like chips and soda, but that’s about it. The view is gorgeous. Great for hours of family time, bbq, and sunsets.

    Caroline S. , 4 years ago
  54. My favorite place in Austin to chill and swim. It’s family owned and private and it’s very well run with tables and a shower to use. A great place to camp and scuba dive. There is no shallow end so whoever goes needs to be a decent swimmer. Also not a lot of shade so bring some sunscreen

    Marc C. , 4 years ago
  55. Are you missing the beach? The sand? The sun? Well Windy Point is a not a beach but it can be a close call to you Caribbean/beach heart. You can swim, enjoy sunsets and relax. Its a very quiet place. I have been here a few times and its always calm. I suggest bring a float to enjoy more time at the lake.

    Gabriela L. , 4 years ago
  56. I have known the family that runs Windy Point Park for over 45 years and they run a really good place. I took my scuba classes there for years and enjoyed the area. Richard and his staff are always there to help you enjoy your stay. Fantastic job

    Alan W. , 5 years ago
  57. Great spot to camp, bbq, swim and enjoy beautiful sunsets. Clean restrooms and good service is what they offer, also they have carts to get your things from your vehicle to your spot of choice at the park. Water is deep and no lifeguards on duty so swim at your own risk. I recommend this place to come relax and enjoy nature .

    Henry C. , 5 years ago
  58. Great place to take people when they visit Austin. They only accept cash so make sure you have cash on you. Long back it was $10 a car, but currently its $5 per person. The place is good, on the lake. This is the view/place you see from Oasis Restaurant. Previously you could drive upto the edge of the lake. I think they stopped that. There is limited parking so may have to walk a bit. They have some shaded areas and bbq pits. There is a restroom as well inside.

    Aniket D. , 5 years ago
  59. The entry to swim is a bit unorthodox, but the water is great! If you’re scuba diving or snorkeling, it’s so much better. Pricing per person is a bit steep, and the walk to the water with a lot of goods is tedious, but there’s plenty of room for seclusion. Just get there early and leave before the crowds roll through. Enjoy!

    Nathanael C. , 5 years ago
  60. Great dive park with many marked underwater attractions and navigation courses. The staff are owner operators and keep a very clean park. There are portable toilets which they keep very well sanitized. There are several covered picnic tables as well open air ones.

Tent camping is allowed, no pets. There are dozens of hand carts available for gear hauling from the parking lot to your sitting/camping area.

Air fills/nitrox are available on site. Food, lodging, and dive shops are fairly close to the park.

In September 2019 visibility was green in the 6’-8’ above 55’. At 60’ the water was black because of upper level algae. The owner said March, April, and May will have 60’-70’ viz.

There is a small entry fee per day and that info is on the web site.

    Michael F. , 6 years ago
  61. I love this place. It’s $10 on weekdays, $15 on weekends/holidays but that includes parking. You can inflate your floaties for free, the staff is friendly, and the facilities are clean. Best of all, it’s a privately owned and maintained park, so open containers are not an issue for those who are of age (no glass allowed). Its my go-to spot for hot summer days.

  62. Great friendly place with a very diver friendly, family atmosphere. Great for divers and non divers. They have clean restrooms and a changing area. They have air refills at a decent price, great water access stairs at multiple locations, and lots of things to see under the water. We always look forward to diving at Windy Point Park. The water depths accommodate a range of diving from introductory open water to advanced technical applications. Max water depth I am told is 185′. I have been to 150′ on a few deco dives at this location – water was crystal clear and absolutely pitch black past at this depth.

  64. Looking for a great place to scuba dive in Austin? This is your place!
Looking for access to swim/float in the lake, without dealing with shoulder to shoulder crowds? This is your place!

I, like many others, first stumbled upon this park while trying to get to Bob Wentz at Windy Point. The owner may be a bit touchy when people confuse the two and want their money back -rumor I heard is his family owned the land and the county took a chunk. Who knows, but it is definitely a different park than the LCRA one down the road.

That said- you will be charged $10 a head vs. $10 a car at Bob Wentz. This does make it more expensive, but on the plus-side, the park is much more low-key and less crowded. If you’re willing to pay, it’s nice to have plenty of space and not be overrun by a bazillion people in the middle of summer. I went on the 4th of July and had plenty of space for my gear. Around the corner at Bob Wentz, you could see a line of cars and people streaming in and could hear the crowd roaring.

This park also is geared more towards long-term camping and scuba diving. With the lake back up, you can dive directly from the shore and there are 4 platforms at different depths for diving. There’s also plenty of other items (car, sailboat, sculptures) to dive to, upwards of 100 feet. The perfect place to practice your diving, plus get air fills to keep you going.

  65. Our first trip made us return customers. Camping is what we do coast to coast, and this is one of my favorite new found campgrounds.
Scuba classes, underwater scenery, swimming, fishing, all on a 14 million dollar lakefront proprty.
Two thumbs up and 5 stars for true tent camping.

  66. Great SCUBA park. Owner was friendly and helpful to repair minor failures in our gear. Reasonably priced and easy to work with. I will be back!

  67. I consider Windy Point Park to be one of Austin’s best kept secrets. Northwest of Austin off RM 620, it’s an easy drive with plenty of parking.

Set on a cliff overlooking Lake Travis (you can see Mansfield dam), and covered with trees, it’s a beautiful place to dive, have a picnic, or camp.

Richard Barstow, owner of Windy Point Park, keeps the park immaculate, and there are dressing rooms and port-o-potties, and carts to bring down your gear. Stop by Windy Point Park; you won’t regret it.
